Milwaukee Union Leader Alex Brower Launches Campaign for Common Council District 3

By - Jan 9th, 2025 04:46 pm

The President of the Milwaukee Substitute Teachers’ Association, Alex Brower, has launched his campaign to represent District 3 on the Milwaukee Common Council.

Brower is running on a platform to:

Replace We Energies with a municipal utility in order to lower energy bills; support Milwaukee Public Schools and oppose breaking up the district; improve city infrastructure, housing, and mass transit; protect immigrant and marginalized communities in Milwaukee; and defend city workers’ wages, benefits & labor conditions.

As the MSTA President, Brower successfully ended an attempt to privatize Milwaukee Public Schools substitute teachers to a temp agency. He also engaged in a 21-day hunger strike to win healthcare benefits for full-time substitute teachers.

Brower serves as executive director of the Wisconsin Alliance for Retired Americans (WIARA). WIARA organizes workers and retirees to build unions and to support union-endorsed candidates in Wisconsin elections.

The Milwaukee DSA (Democratic Socialists of America) has endorsed Alex Brower’s campaign. The DSA is America’s largest socialist organization; it advocates for an economy and society that is run by and for the working class. Brower is the only candidate in the Common Council District 3 election whose policies and track record align with these goals.

The Brower for Common Council campaign is holding a fundraiser and rally on Sunday, January 12 at Shank Hall (1434 N Farwell Ave) from 6:00-10:00 p.m. The campaign is urging all members of the community to stop by for food, live music, and an opportunity for voters to meet with Alex Brower.
