WBB Hosts Villanova Saturday Afternoon

Golden Eagles begin two-game homestand

MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University women’s basketball team hosts Villanova on Saturday, Jan. 11 at 2 p.m. CT at the Al McGuire Center.

The BIG EAST Digital Network on FloCollege features the broadcast with Bob Brainerd (play-by-play) and Chloe Marotta (analyst) on the call.

LEE TEAM-HIGH 19 IN ROAD LOSS AT CREIGHTON
• Lee Volker has led the team in scoring four times this season and had a team-high 19 points in the 71-68 setback at Creighton on Wednesday.
• The senior guard tied her best shooting clip of the season, going 8-of-11 from the floor (72.7 percent) and hit a career-high tying three 3-pointers.

MU SHOOTS SEASON-HIGH 56 PERCENT AT CREIGHTON
• Marquette shot a season-high 56.0 percent from the floor in the loss at Creighton on Wednesday.
• The Golden Eagles shot 63.0 percent in the second half during the comeback from being down eight at halftime.
• Turnovers were costly early on, as MU had 15 first half turnovers that led to 21 points for Creighton.

FORBES EARNS THIRD BIG EAST WEEKLY HONOR ROLL SELECTION
• Skylar Forbes earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday, her third weekly honor of the season.
• Forbes had two 20-point games last week including a game-high 21 points vs. No. 7 UConn on New Year’s Day.
• The Markham, Ontario native had a game-high 21 points in the comeback win at Butler on Saturday, Jan. 4, including two free throws with one second left to seal the win. All 21 points came in the last three quarters.
• Forbes shot 48 percent from the floor (13-of-27) and 85 percent from the line (12-of-14) for the week.

DEFENSE LEADS THE WAY FOR MU
• Marquette is first in the BIG EAST and 19th in the nation in field goal percentage defense (35.3 percent) and have held opponents to under 45 percent from the floor in all 14-of-15 games this season.
• Wedneday’s loss at Creighton was the first time this season an opponent shot 45-percent-or-better against Marquette.
• MU is 48th nationally holding opponents to 57.1 points per game.
• The Golden Eagles have held opponents to under 53 points five times and have held teams to 10-point-or-less in 16 quarters this season.
