WEC Chair Jacobs To Canvass Election Results Friday
MADISON – On Friday morning, Wisconsin Elections Commission Chair Ann Jacobs will canvass the results of the November General Election.
The signing of the canvass statements is the last major step of Wisconsin’s certification process. Once the canvass statements are signed by the chair, the results of all state-level and federal contests, including the presidential contest, become the official, verified results. For nearly all contests the WEC certifies – including Representative to Congress, state Senate, state Assembly, and District Attorney – the Chair will canvass the results, and a certificate of election will be issued.
For the U.S. Senate contest, the Chair will canvass the results, and the Commission will prepare a certificate of election for the governor to sign and transmit to the U.S. Senate.
For the presidential contest, the Chair will canvass and determine the result of the contest based on the certified result statements submitted by each of the 72 counties. The Commission will prepare a certificate of ascertainment determining the results, which the governor will sign and transmit to the presidential electors and applicable federal authorities.
Once ready, the WEC will post copies of the canvass paperwork on the WEC website here. This paperwork will include copies of the signed canvass statements and official result totals for the state and federal contests.
“Wisconsin’s election officials once again proved that they are ready for anything that comes their way,” said Wisconsin Elections Commission Administrator Meagan Wolfe. “On Nov. 5, they showcased Wisconsin’s commitment to fair, accurate, and transparent elections.”Requirements for the presidential electors meeting are described in Wis. Stat. § 7.75. The WEC does not arrange that meeting.
