WEC Chair Jacobs To Canvass Election Results Friday
MADISON – On Friday morning, Wisconsin Elections Commission Chair Ann Jacobs will canvass the results of the November General Election.
For nearly all contests the WEC certifies – including Representative to Congress, state Senate, state Assembly, and District Attorney – the Chair will canvass the results, and a certificate of election will be issued.
For the U.S. Senate contest, the Chair will canvass the results, and the Commission will prepare a certificate of election for the governor to sign and transmit to the U.S. Senate.
For the presidential contest, the Chair will canvass and determine the result of the contest based on the certified result statements submitted by each of the 72 counties. The Commission will prepare a certificate of ascertainment determining the results, which the governor will sign and transmit to the presidential electors and applicable federal authorities.
Once ready, the WEC will post copies of the canvass paperwork on the WEC website here. This paperwork will include copies of the signed canvass statements and official result totals for the state and federal contests.
Requirements for the presidential electors meeting are described in Wis. Stat. § 7.75. The WEC does not arrange that meeting.
