Common Council adopts amended 2025 City budget
Today (Friday, November 8), the Common Council unanimously adopted an amended 2025 City of Milwaukee budget in the amount of approximately $2 billion. The budget bolsters many services and initiatives important to Milwaukeeans, such as improving local roadways, down payment assistance, and greater access to fresh foods, among others. The budget will now head to Mayor Cavalier Johnson who will have until the close of business on Tuesday, November 19 to sign the budget or issue any vetoes.
“I also want to thank my Council colleagues, all of the dedicated staff from the budget office, legislative reference bureau, and countless others who help craft the budget. This endeavor is always a large undertaking and collaborative effort,” she continued.
All amendments to the 2025 City budget can be viewed here along with previous department presentations and other information. In total, the Council passed 25 amendments to the Mayor’s proposed budget. The 2025 tax rate will be $8.30, a $1.17 decrease from 2024. The levy total will be $324,150,507, which is a 2% increase from the year before.
