A Conversation with the Artists of Luftwerk and Normal Studio

October 9 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Free

Free and open to the public.

The Haggerty Museum of Art, in partnership with Sculpture Milwaukee, will present a conversation with Luftwerk, the Chicago-based artist team of Petra Bachmaier and Sean Gallero, and collaborator Normal Studio (Renata Graw) on Wednesday, October 9 at 5:00 p.m. at the Haggerty Museum of Art. The artists created “SOS Color Code”, an outdoor installation currently on view at the Haggerty. Using the universal languages of Morse code and color theory, a series of printed flags transform the international signal of distress (SOS) into a sign of solidarity and connectedness. A companion indoor installation, “Color Code”, by Bachmaier and Gallero, presents a painted mural with changing color light projections, also in the form of Morse code dots and dashes.

Both installations coincide with the 2024 presidential election and the International Day of Democracy. The International Day of Democracy, celebrated annually on September 15th, was established in 2007 by the UN General Assembly to encourage governments to review, consolidate, and strengthen democracy. The General Election will be held in Wisconsin on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.

The lecture is scheduled during National Voter Education Week and is a reminder to plan to register and vote. Learn more about registration deadlines and voting methods for all 50 states at vote.org.
