MILWAUKEE (August 22, 2024) – Acacia’s season begins with Acts of Peace: A Journey Through One-Acts. It’s a blend of three plays that dramatize the work of peace: in ourselves, with our loved ones, even with our enemies.

In the delightful Theophilus North by Matthew Burnett, based on the novel by Thornton Wilder, an ambitious young man leaves his hometown and learns how to belong in a “constellation of people.” Theophilus North is led by Elaine Rewolinski, who was last praised for her essential vision of Acacia’s The Jeweler’s Shop.

The next piece in the lineup, The Happy Journey to Trenton and Camden features a family on the way to visit one of their own who is suffering; together they discover gladness and solace. Among the most popular in Thornton Wilder’s oeuvre, the play is helmed by Assistant Artistic Director Alexandria Eggert, her first with Acacia. Eggert recently adapted and directed a production at Concordia University.

Finishing the collection is King of Kings, Prince of Peace by Jon Pawinski Layton, which tells the story of God’s incarnation as a man to reunite humanity. Artistic Director Janet Bouman Peterson, acclaimed for the “maximum impact” (Shepherd Express) of Acacia’s We Will Not Be Silent, serves as the play’s director.
