The Colors of Chagall: A Family Art Day
August 25 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
$6 - $20Event Navigation
Modernist painter Marc Chagall used color in a dramatic manner that did not imitate nature but instead expressed movement, rhythm, passion, love, and sometimes, pain. “Color,” he once said, “is two things. It is chemistry and it is love.” Join us in celebration of Chagall’s love of color with a family-friendly day featuring all-ages art activities!
– Our make-and-take printmaking demonstrations feature the artists and artwork of AP3, a Milwaukee non-profit community access print shop. Take home a detailed and textured print of your choice and learn more about the technique used to create the Dead Souls prints.
– Show your colors and chalk our walk! We will provide simple sketches inspired by the art of Chagall that can be used as templates for chalkings or show off your own artistic flair. A variety of different chalks will be available.
– Hunt for the hidden treasures in Chagall’s Dead Souls: A Satirical Account of Imperialist Russia and JMM’s permanent exhibit. This scavenger hunt will help you to navigate the Museum with your family.
– Relax within the lines and decide the colors you think would work best on a Chagall painting. Individual coloring book pages, crayons, markers, and colored pencils will be available to mix and match.
Admission is $6 for individuals or $20 for families up to 5 members.
