5 Points Art Gallery + Studios Temperature’s Rising Fashion Show and Wearable Arts Exhibition Opening
Artists and models mesh to bring a body of hot new creations in 3rd wearable arts fashion show + exhibition
MILWAUKEE, WI – Sampled from the title and gritty folkloric essence of rap duo, Mobb Deep, 5 Points Art Gallery + Studios’ third bi-annual wearable arts exhibition, Temperature’s Rising, embraces the taboo and levity of donning scantily fitted to temptingly loose bathing suits, lingerie, lounge wear, and body-con garments as harbingers of the approaching summer season. This healthy voyeur experience opens with a catalytic in-person runway fashion show, Friday, May 17, 2024, 7 p.m. (CST).
As much of a rejective response to forced modesty, censorship and reversing reproductive rights, Temperature’s Rising, equally embodies fun, play and body liberation through creatively cheeky wearable art productions from 11 artists and designers of color, each tasked with making two provoking, body-revering wearable formations from their traditional execution of work.
Featured Artists: Afro Funk Wear by Aluna (Milwaukee, WI), Ellen Wagner of Eldenwa Designs (St. Louis, MO), Farhat Sharif (Karachi, Pakistan), Fatima Laster (Milwaukee, WI), Isissia Drake (Chicago, IL), Kottavei Love (Atlanta, GA), Manny Vibez (Milwaukee, WI), Mars Patterson (Milwaukee, WI), Matte Black by Alyssa Neff (Milwaukee, WI), Pamela Graham of Nandi Collection (Milwaukee, WI), and Mars Patterson of Shepats Designs (Milwaukee, WI).
Fashion show tickets—$20 in advance, $25 at the door— are available for purchase within 5 Points Art Gallery + Studios or via Eventbrite. Search “Temperature’s Rising Wearable Arts Fashion Show”. In-person seating limited.
