Republicans Intensify Attacks on Transgender Community by Shifting Attacks to Healthcare Providers Who Provide Gender Affirming Care
(MADISON) – Yesterday, the Assembly Committee on Judiciary held a public hearing on AB 502, another anti-trans bill, which would have a chilling effect on doctors who provide lifesaving care to trans and non-binary patients.
In the three weeks of 2024, there have been over 300 pieces of anti-LGBTQ legislation introduced to state legislatures across our country. Wisconsin Republicans have been a part of that avalanche of hateful bills which target and attack transgender and non-binary communities.
The Transgender Parent and Non-Binary Advocacy Caucus (TPANAC) Co-chair Representative Melissa Ratcliff (D-Cottage Grove) released the following statement:
“Once again we have before us a bill that has no scientific, medical or factual basis. The only basis is hate. This bill may actually discourage health care providers from offering necessary and beneficial procedures to transgender and non-binary youth. It targets providers of life-saving care for transgender and non-binary youth. It substitutes the judgement of politicians over the professional expertise of health care providers. My Democratic colleagues and I will continue to defend and support life-saving care for all Wisconsinites including the transgender and non-binary communities.”
Co-chair Ryan Clancy (D-Milwaukee) released the following statement:
“Gender affirming care saves lives. The continued Republican obsession with children’s genitalia disrupts and jeopardizes them.”
