MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin, August 31, 2023 – Facing unanticipated financial difficulties, the Girls Rock MKE board of directors has shared that the organization needs to raise $20,000 by the end of 2023 to continue operations as usual.

Organizers for Girls Rock MKE have asked local musicians to help raise $5,000 of its total goal via a digital peer-to-peer campaign and in-person Battle of the Bands fundraiser. The five artists who raise the most money during the digital campaign will each be invited to play a 20-minute set during the all-ages fundraiser event, and attendees will be able to vote for their favorite artist. The Girls Rock MKE community as well as the general public are highly encouraged to attend.

The Battle of the Bands will be held Sunday, September 24, 2023 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at X-Ray Arcade (5036 S. Packard Ave. Cudahy, WI 53110). The lineup of artists will be announced on September 10, 2023 via Girls Rock MKE’s website, social media pages, and email newsletter. Tickets can be purchased in advance of the event at girlsrockmke.org/battle/info and limited numbers of tickets will be available for purchase at the door on the day of the event.

Community members who are unable to attend but interested in contributing can donate directly to Girls Rock MKE at girlsrockmke.org/donate. Girls Rock MKE is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization and all contributions are tax-deductible. In addition to subsidizing camper tuition assistance, instrument repair, and supplies for annual camp sessions, donations also help to pay Girls Rock MKE’s part-time staff directors and its volunteer band coaches and instrument instructors at camps, which is an essential part of organizational efforts to diversify its volunteer base.

The mission of Girls Rock MKE is to empower individuals of marginalized identities and diverse experiences through music education and performance.
