Schedule released for 12th annual Bronzeville Week

Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs is pleased to announce the release of the 2023 Bronzeville Week schedule of events (attached and at: https://tinyurl.com/BWMKE2023) as the city and community prepare to come together for the annual celebration of the history of Bronzeville and Milwaukee’s rich African-American culture, history, commerce, and art. The 12^th Annual Bronzeville Week is set to take place August 5-12 and will include a variety of new and familiar events.

“Bronzeville Week brings together residents, artists, businesses and community stakeholders for a positive celebration of art, culture, commerce in the history-laden Bronzeville District,” Alderwoman Coggs said. “We have a tremendous lineup of events planned and I am looking forward to welcoming the new and the veteran attendees, alike, this year.”

An official City of Milwaukee event now in its 12th full year, Bronzeville Week’s presenting sponsors include Alderwoman Coggs, the City of Milwaukee, Historic King Drive BID #8, American Family Insurance and Bader Philanthropies. Alderwoman Coggs notes that Bronzeville Week is also supported by many, many community partners.

Bronzeville Week kicks off with the HaRUNbee 5K Walk/Run on Saturday, August 5 at 8:00 a.m. Those interested in participating in the event as a runner, walker, or volunteer can lean more and register here.

Other highlights of this year’s Bronzeville Week include:

• Bronzeville Cultural & Arts Festival: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. on Sunday, August 6
• A Conversation with Milwaukee’s own Shonn Hinton -2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 7
• William Finlayson street name change ceremony – 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 8
• Bronzeville Business Breakfast – 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 9
• Bronzeville Trolley Rides: 2:00 and 3:30 p.m. departures on Thursday, August 10
• Harambee Back to School Block Party: 3 – 6 p.m. on Friday, August 11
• Bronzeville Art Walk – 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 12

The Bronzeville Cultural and Entertainment District is a City of Milwaukee redevelopment initiative inspired by Milwaukee’s original Bronzeville, and it is striving to revitalize the area of Milwaukee where African-American culture has been a mainstay. The Bronzeville Redevelopment Plan seeks to create economic development in a predominantly African-American neighborhood in a way that recaptures the enthusiasm and attractiveness of the original Bronzeville District.  Bounded by Garfield Avenue to Center Street, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Drive to 7th Street, the Bronzeville Cultural and Entertainment District is wholly located in the 6th Aldermanic District.
