Senator Baldwin Statement on SCOTUS Mifepristone Ruling

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Senator Tammy Baldwin (D- WI) released the following statement after the Supreme Court of the United States ruled to block District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk’s hold on the federal approval of mifepristone, the abortion medication that was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 2000 and the most common way for Americans to get abortion care:

“Last year, the Supreme Court stripped millions of Americans of their constitutional right to make their own health care decisions. But this case demonstrates that was not the end in extremists’ crusade to attack a woman’s freedom to abortion care – all against the will of the American people. While today’s ruling to keep this safe, effective drug available for the time being is a sense of relief, our fight to preserve a woman’s right to control when and if to have a family continues. Judges, politicians, and government should not be telling women what they can do with their bodies. We must continue to fight this case in the courts to keep Mifepristone available and also work to pass my Women’s Health Protection Act to finally restore the right to abortion care nationwide.”
