MILWAUKEE – We Are Here MKE Collective in partnership with the City of Milwaukee Office of Violence Prevention (OVP) invite community members to a town hall entitled “We Are Here MKE – All Hands On Deck Against Domestic Abuse and Community Violence” on Thursday, December 15. The town hall event will take place from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Washington Park Senior Center (4420 W Vliet St.).

Lead by the Asha Project, the We Are Here MKE Collective is a diverse collective of culturally-sensitive resources for domestic and sexual violence survivors throughout Milwaukee, offering inclusive, welcoming, nonjudgmental support. The Asha Project, Diverse & Resilient, the Gerald L. Ignace Indian Health Center, HIR Wellness Institute, Milwaukee Muslim Women’s Coalition, the Hmong American Women’s Association, and UMOS Latina Resource Center provide culturally-specific programs for those affected by domestic violence, intimate partner violence, and sexual violence.

“Domestic and sexual violence has a rippling effect in our community,” said OVP Director Ashanti Hamilton. “Those who are closest to the problem are closest to the solution, so I encourage everyone to join us in this important conversation. The community’s input is invaluable to crafting a plan and solution for Milwaukee.”

Attendees will hear from members of each of the We Are Here MKE Collective organizations, discuss the prevalence of domestic and intimate partner violence and related homicides in the community, and be asked to share their insights and ideas on what is needed to address this type of violence.

This town hall is free and open to the public, with no prior registration required. Free food, beverages, and desserts will be available for all attendees, including children, while supplies last.
