By - Nov 16th, 2022 04:05 pm

Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs has been selected as part of the 2022 class of legislators nationwide to participate in Policymakers for Peace, a network made up of leaders of color from across the country committed to championing solutions that end the cycle of violence in underserved communities.

Initially launched in 2020 by the Community Justice Action Fund, Policymakers for Peace works to support the passage and implementation of key policies at the state and local levels that tackle gun violence using an equity lens. The initiative seeks to build and support a national, nonpartisan network of state and local policymakers of color united in the fight against gun violence. The initiative will include conference calls and in-person meetings from across the country to engage communities through training, learning, and planning opportunities to collectively work toward ending gun violence. Alderwoman Coggs is one of 31 elected officials to be part of the 2022 class.

“Gun violence continues to be a top issue of concern here in Milwaukee and in other communities across the country, and Policymakers for Peace recognizes that by working collaboratively we can make a lasting impact,” said Alderwoman Coggs. “I am thrilled to be a part of this cohort of elected officials from a variety of backgrounds and communities that is willing and able to come together in the name of curbing gun violence, particularly within communities of color.”
