Senator Agard Responds to GOP Medical Marijuana Bill
MADISON – Today, Senator Mary Felzkowski (R-Irma) and Representative Pat Snyder (R-Schofield) introduced LRB 0250, a bill to create a limited scope medical marijuana program in Wisconsin. The bill would allow for liquid, oil, pill, tincture, or topicals, but no plant or inhalants.
Senator Melissa Agard (D-Madison) released the following statement:
“The most dangerous thing about cannabis is that it is illegal. I appreciate that more folks are coming to the table to address cannabis prohibition including my republican colleagues – however this policy is not the direction Wisconsin should go. The Governor and I agree that full legalization is right for Wisconsin. After all, he included it in his most recent biennial budget. The path forward for Wisconsin is full cannabis legalization for responsible adult usage. The bill introduced today only addresses a small fraction of those who will benefit from a legal medicinal market. It prioritizes pharmaceutical companies, not our farmers or our Main Streets.
“Wisconsin is ready for legal cannabis. Communities most affected by over-enforced and outdated drug policies are ready. Our farmers are ready. Our Main Streets are ready. Let’s do this together – let’s legalize cannabis.”
