Local Soup Kitchen Fundraises to Keep Doors Open

The Gathering hosts food drive in recognition of GivingTuesday

By - Nov 23rd, 2021 06:14 am

MILWAUKEE, WI (November 23, 2021) – The Gathering is a nonprofit community meal program that provides close to 90,000 free meals a year to the hungry and homeless populations. In recognition of GivingTuesday and in efforts to meet its immediate needs, the nonprofit is hosting a food drive at Indeed Brewing Co. on Tuesday, November 23 between 4-7 PM.

Local small businesses are teaming up to support The Gathering’s food drive; the first 30 people to donate are receiving a custom “Everybody Eats” t-shirt designed by Among the Prime. Additionally, Heirloom MKE food truck is parking outside the event and 20% of their profits from the evening are being donated toward The Gathering’s GivingTuesday fundraising goal of $40,000.

“One of Heirloom MKE’s missions is to help strengthen our community by bringing people together to enjoy good food…” says Jessie Ignatiev, Owner and General Manager of Heirloom MKE. “We could not think of a better way to bring the community together by giving back to those that need it the most and supporting The Gathering and their generous mission.”

The Gathering is serving 100-300 free meals every Monday-Saturday across four locations. To continue meeting the needs of Milwaukee’s hungry and homeless, The Gathering is in immediate need of food and supplies including jars of jelly, individually packaged desserts, individually packaged peanut butter/cheese crackers, disposable face masks and plastic grocery bags.

“We are really relying on our partners and sponsors to keep our doors open…” says Lyn Hildenbrand, Executive Director of The Gathering. “We are still experiencing trying times and the support of our community is so important now more than ever.”

GivingTuesday is on November 30 and The Gathering is asking the Milwaukee community to support its mission through monetary donations. Following GivingTuesday, on December 1, the nonprofit is hosting another event at Indeed Brewing Co. where 100% of the profit made at Indeed Brewing Co. will go directly toward The Gathering’s mission. Individuals donate now through Dec 1 by visiting  www.thegatheringwis.org/donate. To learn more about GivingTuesday at The Gathering, visit www.thegatheringwis.org/givingtuesday
