RSLC Announces “14 in ‘14 Races to Watch” at Future Majority Project Summit

Today the Republican State Leadership Committee’s (RSLC) Future Majority Project (FMP) and “Right Women, Right Now” initiative announced “14 in ’14 Races to Watch” during the 2014 FMP Summit in Santa Fe, NM. Additionally, the Future Majority Project announced that New Mexico State Representative, Alonzo Baldonado, will join the Future Majority Caucus Board of Directors.

Headlined by FMP co-chair, Governor Susana Martinez, the FMP summit gathered New Mexico elected officials along with female and diverse leaders from across the nation to strategize on best practices and work together to recruit candidates that reflect the full diversity of America.  Earlier this year, the RSLC announced FMP had exceeded the 2014 goals for recruitment by identifying 244 new, diverse candidates and 558 new women running for office.

“I am honored to join the Future Majority Project’s mission to enhance the ranks of the Republican Party by ensuring more candidates across the nation reflect our nation’s beautiful and full diversity,” said Baldonado.  “As a member of the Future Majority Caucus Board I look forward to aiding our candidates to make significant gains in 2014 and beyond.”

New Mexico Secretary of State Dianna Duran, who also participated in the summit, added, “I am grateful for the opportunity to host this gathering in my home state. Through the Future Majority Project and “Right Women, Right Now,” the RSLC is leading the way in recruiting strong candidates across our state and across our nation to run and win.   I congratulate my friend Alonzo Baldonado on being named as a leader for the Future Majority Project and I look forward to working together to elect these candidates.”

Lieutenant Governor John Sanchez concluded “On behalf of the Future Majority Project we thank Governor Susana Martinez for headlining our summit and for her leadership and vision in helping the RSLC support women and diverse candidates everywhere.  New Mexico’s top three statewide elected officials are Hispanic Republicans, and we are proud to set a standard of how to run and win with diverse communities.  We will continue to work with other states and elected officials on the best practices we’ve learned in New Mexico, and look forward to supporting the Future Majority Project through this and future cycles.”

Fast Facts on the Future Majority Project and Future Majority Caucus

• For the 2013-2014 cycle, FMP announced a goal to identify 200 new diverse candidates as well as 300 new women candidates through its “Right Women, Right Now” initiative, with the goal of electing at least 75 diverse candidates and 150 women candidates.  Earlier this summer FMP announced 244 diverse candidates identified across the nation and 558 women through “Right Women, Right Now.”
• In February 2013, FMP announced the Future Majority Caucus – leadership of current elected officials comprised of the first class of last cycle’s FMP candidates – to work to expand the scope of recruitment by the RSLC to include not only candidates of Hispanic descent, but other candidates reflecting the broad scope of ethnic diversity across the nation as well. Today Alonzo Baldonado was announced as the newest board member.
• The RSLC will launch an online campaign school for all Future Majority Project and “Right Women, Right Now” candidates.
• In 2011, the RSLC launched the Future Majority Project – a forward-thinking outreach initiative intended to proactively grow the Republican Party. Chaired by Governors Susana Martinez of New Mexico and Brian Sandoval of Nevada, FMP named goals in 2011 of identifying 100 new candidates of Hispanic descent.  Successes last cycle include exceeding initial goals by identifying 126 candidates of Hispanic descent in 26 states and increasing the number of Hispanic Republicans in office.
• As part of FMP, RSLC also launched ‘Right Women, Right Now’ (RWRN), a sustained effort to identify and support Republican women candidates at the state level.  The goal for 2012 was to identify 150 new Republican women candidates with the goal of electing 75 to office.  RWRN successes included exceeding goals by identifying 191 new candidates and electing 84 new Republican women to state-level office in 36 states.
