Homicide by reckless driving leaves two dead
Statement from Common Council President Cavalier Johnson
Milwaukeeans have watched in horror as surveillance video captured a reckless driver plowing into another vehicle on Saturday (August 7) at N. 60th St. and W. Hampton Ave., leaving two 22-year-old men dead, and loved ones grieving their senseless and tragic deaths.
Milwaukee Police say the crash occurred when two drivers were racing each other at high speed at approximately 4:40 p.m. After the crash, police arrested a 37-year-old man who was driving the vehicle that struck the vehicle that was occupied by the two 22-year-olds, and the other reckless driver (whose vehicle struck two other vehicles at the scene) – a 30-year-old man – was also arrested.
The two drivers carelessly put untold numbers of innocent citizens in danger, and ultimately their recklessly endangering behavior led to the senseless deaths of two young men.
I am hopeful that the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office will charge the reckless drivers in accordance with what they deserve, which I believe should be a charge that includes the word “homicide.”
