Supervisor Logsdon Proposal to Address Surveying Backlog Recommended by Finance Committee
MILWAUKEE – The County Board’s Finance Committee unanimously voted Thursday to recommend a proposal by County Supervisor Patti Logsdon to create an additional Engineering Tech – Surveyor position in the county’s Facilities Management Division.
“Milwaukee County is in need of an additional land surveyor,” said Supervisor Logsdon. “On a trip to Mangan Woods in April, I discovered how personal property is encroaching on county parkland. I later discovered that this issue is not unique to Mangan Woods but is happening across Milwaukee County. An additional surveyor will help ensure that we have accurate borders of our public land.”
The Facilities Management Division currently employs only one surveyor. Since 2019, the division has been tasked with additional surveying work, prompting backlogs of surveying for some departments and necessitating other departments to contract out surveying services at a higher cost to taxpayers and often with delays than could be avoided with adequate in-house staffing.
The new position would be paid for in part by state and federal grants related to construction and maintenance of county trunk highways and various airport projects.
The full County Board of Supervisors will consider the resolution on Thursday, June 24.
