MILWAUKEE – Jonathan Brostoff, candidate for the 19th Assembly District, announced today two additions to his growing list of endorsements: the American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), Local 82, which represents many groups of state employees, and the National Association of Social Workers-Wisconsin (NASW-WI), whose members are Wisconsin’s social work professionals.

“Jonathan’s proven record, as the only candidate who has worked in the State Capitol, makes him ready to serve the working families of Wisconsin as our representative,” said Michael Maass, President of AFSCME Local 82. “Having been a top aide for Senate Democratic Leader Chris Larson, we know that Jonathan will work hard, full-time, every day to protect the rights of labor and create new family-supporting jobs in our community.”

Brostoff also announced the endorsement of NASW-WI, a social workers membership association, which represents mental health care professionals across Wisconsin.

“With a long personal and family history of direct service with, and advocacy for, those with mental health issues in our community, Jonathan is the clear choice to represent the 19th District,” said Marc Herstand, Executive Director of NASW-WI. “We know that, with the retirement of State Assembly Democratic Leader Sandy Pasch, a strong supporter of his campaign, Jonathan will pick up the torch to stand up for our profession and our clients dealing with mental health issues.”

Brostoff has long been active on mental health matters, having testified before the state legislature on the subject, and having worked for several community organizations serving individuals dealing with such issues for more than a decade.

“I am grateful and honored to receive the support of both AFSCME Local 82, and NASW-WI,” said Brostoff.  “In their different ways, they stand for strong working families, a healthy economy, professionalism in social and health services, and the fullest well-being of our most vulnerable neighbors. They stand up for Wisconsin, and I will work hard, full-time, every day in the legislature to continue advancing their goals.”

Jonathan Brostoff is the District Director for Senate Democratic Leader Chris Larson (D-Milwaukee) and is currently on a leave of absence to run for State Assembly in District 19. A longtime resident and community leader in the District, Brostoff is dedicated to bringing effective, progressive leadership to the state legislature. The primary election is on August 12th.
