Gas Prices Rising In State

With more travel on the horizon for newly vaccinated Wisconsinites, gas prices in Wisconsin are rising.

The average price of a gallon of gas in Wisconsin now stands at $2.84, according to GasBuddy.com. That’s up more than 4 cents from last week and 11 cents since last month.

Experts expected a rise in gas prices this spring, with more people planning to travel this year after being vaccinated against COVID-19.

“It’s all about supply and demand,” said GasBuddy senior petroleum analyst Patrick De Haan. “It was last year when prices fell as Americans stayed home. Demand plummeted. Now, that demand has rebounded pretty strongly in the last couple of months. Prices have recovered, too.”

De Haan said while there are national concerns about the recent cyberattack against a top United States pipeline company affecting gas prices, that shouldn’t directly affect Wisconsin.

“The Colonial Pipeline disruption is not going to have a material impact on prices or availability in most of the country, certainly not in Wisconsin,” De Haan said. “That’s the good news: this is isolated.”

Wisconsin’s average gas price remains below the national average of $2.95 a gallon.
