About Impeachment
We Deserve Full Transparency
With the impeachment trial over for former President Donald Trump, I’d like the chance to share with you my thoughts after hearing all the testimony.
First, let me make one thing clear: I do not condone any of the violence and chaos that occurred on Jan. 6. Peaceful protesting is constitutionally protected, but some of the people at the Capitol that day crossed the line and must be held accountable for their actions.
Some of the videos shown during the trial were surprising and reprehensible. But we must be honest and accurate about what happened. Attacking people like me who are simply asking legitimate questions does not serve our country or the truth. I encourage you to read this article by independent journalist Glenn Greenwald, ” The False and Exaggerated Claims Still Being Spread About the Capitol Riot.” When I asked this question during the impeachment trial, neither side had an answer:
If the breach was foreseeable, why did the House Sergeant at Arms reportedly turn down a request to activate the National Guard, stating that he was not comfortable with the “optics”?
Finally, I encourage you to watch the closing argument by Trump attorney Michael van der Veen. He summed up what millions of Americans have been thinking for four years: It is hypocrites on the left who have been inciting violence and failing to denounce it.
In the end, I would argue this wasn’t even a trial. It was political theater. Thankfully, the Democrats’ vindictive and divisive political impeachment is over. While there are still many questions that remain unanswered, I do know neither the Capitol breach nor this trial should have ever occurred. Hopefully, true healing can now begin.
This week, we learned that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi named retired Army Lt. Gen. Russel Honore to head the security review of the U.S. Captiol. While I agree an investigation is needed, Honore is an extreme partisan and should be the last person to head up this investigation.
For example, as outlined in this Washington Times article, Honore said the U.S. Capitol police were “complicit” in the Jan. 6 breach.
