Chris Moews Statement on Today’s Drug Raids in Milwaukee
Milwaukee Police Lieutenant Chris Moews (maize) issued the following statement.
Milwaukee – Milwaukee Police Lieutenant Chris Moews (maize), candidate for Milwaukee County Sheriff, today issued the following statement regarding the early-morning drug raids that occurred in the city of Milwaukee.
“This morning, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, in coordination with the Milwaukee Police Department, launched a series of raids on residential homes on Milwaukee’s north side. For too long, our city and suburbs have suffered at the hands of an influx of Schedule I narcotics, such as heroin and crack cocaine.
“These raids show the success of cooperation between multiple levels of law enforcement, between local and federal agencies, in order to combat the growing epidemic of drug use and distribution that has not only threatened the integrity of our communities, but the future of our youth.
“Currently, the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office has only two deputies assigned to the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Task Force. In Wisconsin’s most populous county with a population of nearly one million people, this is simply unacceptable.
“The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office should be a key partner in such efforts to rid our communities of this growing threat. As sheriff, I will make it a top priority to adequately staff this division, and work with all levels of government in order to generate the higher quality of life that we all deserve.”
Chris Moews is a life-long resident of Milwaukee County and a decorated Lieutenant in the Milwaukee Police Department. He is an expert instructor in law enforcement tactics, was recently named Homicide Investigator of the Year, and lives with his wife and two sons in Milwaukee’s Jackson Park neighborhood.
