Statement on the retirement of MPD Acting Chief Brunson

I want to thank retiring Acting Chief Michael J. Brunson Sr. for his distinguished service to the Milwaukee Police Department and to the City of Milwaukee. His sworn service in protecting the safety of the residents of Milwaukee and in leading the department has been exemplary, and is deeply appreciated.
Acting Chief Brunson joined the MPD in December 1995, and prior to his tenure as acting chief he was the assistant chief of the Patrol Bureau. Previously, he was an inspector in the Neighborhood Patrol Bureau and commander of the Internal Affairs Division where his responsibilities included overseeing investigations into allegations of misconduct against police personnel. After joining the Milwaukee Police Department in 1995, he was assigned to Districts 5 and 4 as an officer and was promoted to sergeant in November 2000.
As a sergeant, he served Districts 2, 7 and the Internal Affairs Division, and was promoted to lieutenant in November 2005 and assigned to District 5 on the early shift. He remained at District 5 until his promotion to Captain in May 2010, and as a captain he was the commanding officer of District Three until June 2013 when he was promoted to the rank of deputy inspector.
