Advancing a Healthier Wisconsin Endowment Announces New Board Members

Statewide health philanthropy welcomes expertise of health care and community health leaders Dr. Ian Martin and Stephanie Harrison to oversight board

Milwaukee, December 8, 2020 – The Advancing a Healthier Wisconsin Endowment (AHW), has announced the appointment of Dr. Ian B.K. Martin and Stephanie Harrison to its public oversight body, the MCW Consortium on Public and Community Health (Consortium).

“It is an honor to welcome Dr. Martin and Ms. Harrison to the Consortium,” said Jesse Ehrenfeld, MD, MPH, director of the Advancing a Healthier Wisconsin Endowment and senior associate dean at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW). “AHW is grateful for the expertise and leadership brought by all members of the Consortium. Individually and together, Dr. Martin and Ms. Harrison will bring a wealth of knowledge and important perspective to this work.”

“The Consortium provides oversight to AHW’s mission to improve health and advance health equity by supporting innovative and impactful work statewide,” said Joy Tapper, MPA, board member and chair of the Consortium. “We are delighted to be bringing Dr. Martin and Ms. Harrison’s talents and leadership to the board.”

Ian B.K. Martin, MD, MBA, is system chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine and professor with tenure of emergency medicine and medicine at the MCW School of Medicine. Dr. Martin is also Emergency Physician-in-Chief at the Froedtert and MCW Health Network. An internationally recognized leader in academic emergency medicine, Dr. Martin has devoted his career to improving the delivery of emergency care globally. A member of the City of Milwaukee Board of Health, he is also the immediate past-president of the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM)—the premier association representing researchers and educators in emergency medicine. Dr. Martin is a fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians and the American Academy of Emergency Medicine.

Stephanie Harrison, MA, is CEO of the Wisconsin Primary Health Care Association, which represents the statewide network of community health centers providing quality mental health, medical, and dental services to more than 300,000 Wisconsin residents each year. She has served on numerous statewide health committees focused on both urban and rural health priorities and is a graduate of the National Public Health Leadership Institute.

Martin and Harrison will both serve four-year terms on the Consortium.
