A growing number of MPS student projects – including a student-designed wind turbine; a 7-foot wind tunnel; and a remote-controlled survey robot – will be on display Tuesday at the MPS STEM Partners Spring Student Showcase.

The showcase highlights the work of students in Milwaukee Public Schools’ Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs across the district.

CTE is a critical piece of MPS’ efforts to boost college and career readiness across the district.

MPS offers CTE programs of study – ranging from business to food products/processing to transportation and manufacturing (including CNC and computer-integrated manufacturing) – in 12 MPS high schools. In addition, 41 MPS schools include Project Lead the Way pre-engineering and biomedical sciences programming, serving 6,000-plus students beginning primarily at middle school grades and now expanding into earlier grades.

This spring’s showcase is titled ‘Our MPS – Our Future.’ “It’s about how much the children believe in themselves and what they’re taking with them,” MPS CTE Curriculum Specialist Hugh Hermann said. “We are grateful for the work of many students, educators and our MPS STEM Partners for supporting this important work.”

Sponsors include CH2M HILL, Direct Supply and STEM Forward.

Projects will be on display from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20 at MPS STEM partner Direct Supply, 6663 N. Industrial Road, Champion’s Hall, Milwaukee 53223. Media are invited and welcome to attend.
