(MILWAUKEE)Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) Superintendent Brenda Cassellius today announced the Lincoln Avenue School community has received an outpouring of donated supplies, fully meeting the immediate need for donated materials to start the new school year. The MPS Foundation will continue to accept monetary donations on behalf of the school to meet future needs.

“The response to the devastating fire at Lincoln Avenue School has shown the very best of Milwaukee and MPS,” Dr. Cassellius said. “Thanks to the incredible support of the MPS Foundation and the generosity of the greater Milwaukee community, Lincoln Avenue students and teachers will start this school year with the supplies and tools they need to get started right away. Our community showed up in a time of need, and it is our students who will benefit.”

The extraordinary response followed the devastating five-alarm fire June 30 that destroyed the school, at 1817 W. Lincoln Ave. With today’s announcement, Milwaukee Public Schools is no longer accepting donated supplies for Lincoln Avenue School, however, the MPS Foundation continues to accept monetary donations on behalf of the school through the Lincoln Avenue School Fund at mpsfdn.org/donate.

Lincoln Avenue School will move to dedicated space in Pulaski High School, 2500 W. Oklahoma Ave., to start the school year on September 1.

The available space and its configuration at Pulaski will allow Lincoln Avenue students and staff to remain together and also provide for the elementary school’s own entrance, classrooms, and cafeteria at the site.

MPS leaders, the MPS Foundation, the Milwaukee Teachers’ Education Association and community leaders will distribute supplies to Lincoln teachers the week of August 24.
