MILWAUKEE — Throughout the month of March, various groups at Marquette University are hosting events in celebration of Women’s History Month.

Here are a few events that would make for great stories.

March 4

A Soup with Substance commemorating Women’s History Month will take place from noon to 1 p.m. in the Henke Lounge in the Alumni Memorial Union, 1442 W. Wisconsin Ave. The event will feature presentations from Dr. Jean M. Grow, professor of strategic communication and director of the Institute for Women’s Leadership, and Sasha Waters Parsons, coordinator for the Women’s Innovation Network.

March 19

To celebrate the centennial of the 19th Amendment, the Marquette University Law School Association for Women’s Lawyers and the IWL are co-hosting a panel discussion from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the 707 Hub, 1102 W. Wisconsin Ave. The discussion, titled “Suppression & Suffrage: How the Women of MKE Will Pick the Next President,” will focus on the success of women being afforded the right to vote, the progress still to be made, and voting rights in Milwaukee.

The panel will feature Taylor Barnes, Democratic National Convention women’s political director, Atiba Ellis, voting rights scholar and professor of law, and Angela Lang, executive director of Black Leaders Organizing for Communities. The discussion will be moderated by Andrea Schneider, IWL director and professor of law. Register via Eventbrite.

March 24

LUNAFEST, a traveling film festival showcasing seven short films by, for and about women, will present two screenings — at noon and 6 p.m.— in the Tony and Lucille Weasler Auditorium, 1506 W. Wisconsin Ave. LUNAFEST was created to provide a platform for women to share their untold stories with the world. The festival also supports several women’s causes. Register via Eventbrite.

Media wishing to attend any of these events should contact Shelby Williamson in the Office of Marketing and Communication at shelby.williamson@marquette.edu or (414) 288-6712.
