HNBA Statement on Judicial Diversity in Wisconsin

WASHINGTON, DC — The President of the Hispanic National Bar Association released a statement ahead of 2020 non-partisan elections being held in Wisconsin for the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

“A judiciary with a full complement of judges of diverse backgrounds increases the public’s trust and confidence, and ensures both access to justice and citizen confidence in the justice system,” said HNBA President Irene Oria. “The HNBA was alarmed by a recent study by the Brennan Center for Justice that found that twenty-four states in the U.S. currently have an all-white supreme court bench, including Wisconsin.”

“For decades, the HNBA has worked to identify and promote talented attorneys of Hispanic descent for consideration on the federal judicial bench and in state judiciaries. We urge Americans across the nation to take the importance of a fair and diverse judiciary in mind when they choose among the best qualified candidates in the 2020 elections.”
