MILWAUKEE, WI (Thursday, July 18, 2019) –The Marcus Performing Arts Center continues its performing arts outreach program – Arts Connect. The Center is thrilled to announce this program is continuing to grow with its fifth Summer Arts Camp during the run of the Broadway show, Anastasia. This opportunity is free of cost and includes students from all over the metro-Milwaukee area who have a strong interest in the performing arts. This program gives these students access to arts professionals and the chance to experience various aspects of the performing arts industry first hand.

This year’s Summer Arts Camp begins Monday, July 22 and runs through Friday, July 26. Various workshops will be held throughout the week including dance warm ups with Chris DeAngelo Gilbert, how to apply for college with a variety of Wisconsin colleges, auditioning skills with local talent, sound engineering with MATC, backstage workshops and more.

The arts camp wraps up with a vocal and dance master class with cast members from Anastasia. These two classes will teach the students vocal auditions, vocal technique, choreography from a Broadway show and more. The students will then get a chance to see Anastasia live on Friday, July 26.

Arts Connect is sponsored by: Bader Philanthropies and Milwaukee Public Schools Partnership for the Arts and Humanities.

“The delivery of arts education in Milwaukee is very important to Bader Philanthropies as there was less and less opportunities for children to receive any involvement in art in their schools,” said Jeff Rosen, Program Officer at Bader Philanthropies. “Budget dictated education was really kind of abandoned so we felt it our obligation to build up organizations that would involve children in a meaningful art education program. Arts Connect is one of those programs children learn about what is necessary for them to move forward even within the arts or in the general advancement of their education in their life.”

“The Marcus Center values our partnership and the opportunity to share the national caliber of Broadway productions with Milwaukee area students,” said Paul Mathews, President and CEO of the Marcus Center. “This program is a vital piece of our commitment to using art to build bridges between diverse parts of our community. We will continue to expand our efforts with the help of our generous sponsors.”
