MCSO to Present Charges of 1ST OWI on Wrong Way Driver Incident
The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office will present charges of OWI-1st Causing Injury and First Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety for review by the District Attorney’s Office.
Milwaukee, WI (June 14th, 2019) On Friday, June 14, at approximately 2:18 a.m., the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a crash involving a wrong-way driver traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of Interstate 43 near the Marquette Interchange. Upon arrival, squads observed that the suspect vehicle, a tan Toyota, had struck an SUV and a silver Hyundai, which was in use as a ride-share vehicle. No occupants of the SUV reported injuries. The operator and passenger of the ride-share vehicle were transported to an area medical facility with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the suspect vehicle, a 32-year-old Milwaukee resident, also sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area medical facility for treatment. Deputies at the scene observed that the suspect driver displayed signs of impairment, and he admitted to consuming alcohol. The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office will present charges of OWI-1st Causing Injury and First Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety for review by the District Attorney’s Office.
The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office patrols our expressway system at all hours and maintains constant vigilance for wrong-way drivers. On Saturday, May 18, deputies apprehended a wrong-way driver just moments after he passed a Milwaukee judge, who described the incident on Facebook. On Sunday, June 2, a deputy patrolling I-94 near N. 26th St., observed and apprehended a wrong-way driver traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes.
