In-Custody Death Investigation

Milwaukee, WI – On Monday, April 22, at approximately 3:41 a.m., an inmate recently booked into the Milwaukee County Jail experienced a medical emergency. Prior to being booked into the jail, the inmate had been medically cleared, subsequent to his arrest, at an area hospital.

Medical aid was rendered to the inmate and the Milwaukee Fire Department was contacted and responded. While in a Milwaukee Fire Department medical unit, the inmate died.

The individual is a 49-year-old Milwaukee man whose identity is being withheld pending next-of-kin notification. The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy and the results are pending.

The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office requested that the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department respond to conduct an investigation.
