Milwaukee journalist Willy Thorn has released his 14th book.

The book follows ‘Pearls of the Orient;’ a 2o17 release featuring stories from India, China, Myanmar, Vietnam, Malaysia, Cambodia, Laos & more.

‘Amazing Thailand’ is a collection of humor, short pieces, poems & scripts written during the author’s recent travels in the east.

The book follows ‘Pearls of the Orient;’ a 2o17 release featuring stories from India, China, Myanmar, Vietnam, Malaysia, Cambodia, Laos & more.

Locally, Thorn has written for the Shepherd Express (since 1999) & also worked as a sports reporter, arts critic & agate clerk for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

He has also contributed to Milwaukee Magazine, M Lifestyles magazines, Neighborhood News Service, the suburban NOW Newspapers network, the local Associated Press, the Bay View Compass, Riverwest Currents & the Greenfield-based American Bowling Congress’ family of magazines. He has also written scripts for regional theatre.

Thorn’s first book was a biography of Milwaukee inner city icon Brother Booker Ashe. The book covers the decline of the city’s near northside, the growth of the landmark House of Peace, the social turbulence of the late 196os & Brother Booker’s role as a racial trailblazer & prominent national black figure. The book was featured on PBS in 2o11.

Thorn is a graduate of Marquette University (M.A.; 2oo6) & is a native of the Sherman Park neighborhood.
