Scott Walker’s Real Record for People With Disabilities
"Scott Walker refuses to raise the sub-minimum wage, which allows businesses to pay people with disabilities as little as 10 cents an hour because we are exempt from the minimum wage."
In response to Scott Walker‘s latest TV ad, the Democratic Party of Wisconsin is issuing the following statement from Nicki Vander Meulen, who is an attorney, member of the Madison Board of Education, and individual living with cerebral palsy and Asperger’s syndrome:
“Scott Walker refuses to raise the sub-minimum wage, which allows businesses to pay people with disabilities as little as 10 cents an hour because we are exempt from the minimum wage. Our state hasn’t had an increase in special education funding in 10 years. When he killed the high-speed rail project, he made it more difficult for people with mobility issues to get from place to place. He refused to expand Medicaid, which many people with disabilities rely on. And Scott Walker continues his attempts to gut protections for those of us with pre-existing conditions with his lawsuit to overturn the Affordable Care Act. That’s Scott Walker’s real record for people with disabilities.”
