TRAFFIC ALERT: Brown Street Bridge to Close Monday, April 23, 2018

Bridge over the Canadian Pacific Railroad will be closed for reconstruction until Fall 2018

By - Apr 20th, 2018 05:43 pm

The City of Milwaukee Department of Public Works (DPW) announces that the Brown Street bridge over the Canadian Pacific Railroad from North 30th to North 31st streets will close Monday, April 23, 2018 through Fall 2018, weather permitting.

Built in 1934, this 84-year-old bridge will be removed and completely reconstructed with bridge parapets complementing the adjacent buildings and the neighborhood. The existing roadway is 36 feet wide and will remain 36 feet wide. Approximately 15-20 feet of the roadway approaching the bridge will be reconstructed with concrete pavement, and curbs, gutters and sidewalks will be replaced where necessary.

What to expect during construction:

  • Vehicular traffic should use West North and West Lisbon avenues instead of W. Brown St.
  • Pedestrian access: While no one will be allowed to travel over the bridge during construction, pedestrians will be able to access those businesses and other properties that abut the bridge
  • Parking: There will be no on-street parking on W. Brown St. between N. 30th and N. 31st streets

DPW advises adding extra time when traveling in and around this neighborhood.
