Gov. Walker, GOP leaders call extraordinary session to avoid elections

Republicans prove government can indeed work efficiently when it serves them

By - Mar 27th, 2018 09:57 am

MADISON – Last week, a judge appointed by Governor Walker determined the governor was acting above the law by refusing to hold special elections in two vacant legislative seats, instead leaving more than 200,000 Wisconsinites without full representation for over a year. The judge ruled Governor Walker must call special elections in the two vacant districts.

“The judge in this case was absolutely correct to rule Governor Walker was acting unlawfully by forcing more than 200,000 Wisconsin taxpayers to go over a year without representation in the Assembly or Senate,” said Rep. David Bowen (D-Milwaukee).

In response, the governor and his Republican allies in the legislature acted without hesitation to call an extraordinary session of the legislature to change the rules so they don’t have to put their failed agenda in front of voters who have routinely rejected Republicans at the ballot box this year.

“Wisconsinites have seen first-hand the inability of this governor and legislature to respond to the needs of Wisconsinites,” Bowen continued. “From Republicans voting unanimously against universal gun background checks, to taking the better part of a decade to finally listen to Democrats and close Lincoln Hills, responsiveness to glaring issues is not something this governor and legislature are known for.

“Yet, when the greatest fear Republicans have in 2018 – the electorate – presented itself, it was with swift determination that the governor and Republicans faced the problem head on. A problem so big, they decided, that an extraordinary session of the legislature was justified to make sure these Wisconsin taxpayers don’t have a chance at the representation they deserve.

“Meanwhile, kids are spending their spring break marching across the state asking their elected officials to reconsider doing nothing to protect them from gun violence in their schools. But Republicans have more important problems to address.”

As if stealing our voting rights via gerrymandering wasn’t enough, nor was selling themselves and the state off to the highest corporate bidder and special interest groups, nor was pasding draconian voter ID restrictions further dismantling democracy itself, now Career Politician and Big Government moocher Scott Walker and other republican goons in Wisconsin are changing the law itself AFTER the judge ruled against them! Shouldn’t the ruling apply to the law the judge actually ruled on at the time not the law republican schemers changed it to? This is truly a new low of corruption and scheming even by Walker and Wisconsin republicans and that is saying A LOT! Thus Wisconson republicans are now depriving Wisconsinites who are constitutionally guaranteed the right to elected representation mind you, from having ANY representation for over a year! And these are solid Republican districts! Do republicans hate freedom this much? Do republicans hate democracy itself that much that they would destroy it, just to try and maintain their ever weakening grip on power? Answer: Yes.

The only thing left to do is vote as many of these lying, cheating, stealing republicans out of office in November!

I lived in Chicago for 30 years, just returned less than a year ago. And IL has a reputation for government corruption? Doesn’t hold a candled to what I’m witnessing in WI. This is not the state I left 30 years ago and I often times regret my return. Alas, I’m stuck.

  3. Tom says:

@Robert, I agree wholeheartedly. Walker and republicans have done incredible damage to the state. They are as corrupt as any politician can be. We have to just keep fighting for what is right! That starts on April 3rd by voting for Dallet for Supreme Court and continues until November when we vote Walker and all these republican frauds out of office.

  4. WashCoRepub says:

Robert, I hope that you are indeed able to return to Illinois as soon as you are able. I’ve been encouraging as many Democrats as possible to go to the havens of Illinois, Minnesota, etc. Illinois, currently bleeding residents, is going to need as many productive people as possible in the next 20+ years to contribute tax revenue to their soaring public sector pension obligations, especially in the Chicago school district (front page news on the Tribune web site today, in fact).

Sorry you’re stuck here. Hopefully you’ll be able to leave the state again soon and start living free of regrets.

  5. Terry says:

@WashCoRepug, Sorry! It sounds like he is staying put. So sorry but in a free society you’re going to learn to deal with differing opinions. Yet again however, you show up only to chide, mock and insult either the authors of the articles or other people who comment on them. You never mention ANYTHING about the topic at hand, that being, Career Politician Scott Walker and republican’s corruption and schemes, this time these frauds are attacking Wisconsinite’s constitutionally protected right to vote. Do you really support this obvious corruption? We all know you have no shame, no class and little intelligence but why continue to showcase it for all the world to see? Now instead I suggest you be a good little sycophantic, obsequious Big Government boot licking Trump Toady and go back to your stinky couch, turn on Fox news or your favorite right wing radio propaganda and stare off mindlessly at the wall.

    Dump Walker 2018
