Supervisor Taylor Criticizes Resolution Limiting Sheriff Clarke’s Public Service Announcements as Nothing More than a Personal Vendetta

Milwaukee, WI – Supervisor Steve F. Taylor sharply criticized the resolution considered today by the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors, which aims to limit elected county officials’ ability to use county funds to purchase media commercial time or space in order to place commercials that feature the elected official.

“This resolution clearly stems from the ongoing personal vendetta its chief sponsor, Supervisor Jursik, has with Sheriff Clarke, and I wish she had more tact in going about this matter,” said Supervisor Taylor. “It is standard nationwide practice that elected officials send mailings featuring their image and often include personalized letterhead as part of communicating with their constituents. Therefore, I do not see how one can argue that this has lesser impact then a public service announcement.”

The County Board voted 11-7 to refer the resolution back to the Committee on Finance and Audit for additional modification. Supervisor Taylor voted against the referral.
