Common Council passes substitute ordinance on ATV operation
Anyone who violates Wisconsin’s ATV laws can be fined up to $250.
Today the Common Council approved an ordinance relating to the operation of all-terrain vehicles (ATV) on city streets. Under Wisconsin law, no person can operate an ATV or utility terrain vehicle on a highway or any public road, with few exceptions.
The ordinance, sponsored by Alderman José G. Pérez, addresses increased illegal use of ATVs on city streets. “There have been reports of ATVs driving down certain streets in the 12th District, including Mitchell St. This is illegal and a major safety concern, and it is important to be aware the consequences for violating this law.”
Residents are encouraged to take their ATV vehicles on designated trails; however, Milwaukee does not have any designated routes in the city. Anyone who violates Wisconsin’s ATV laws can be fined up to $250.
