Rep. Peter Barca Statement on GOP Plan to Increase Taxes
"By 2019, more than 740,000 taxpayers will see an increase in how much they pay, not a decrease."
Madison – Assistant Minority Leader Peter Barca released a statement today on the Republican tax plan that raises taxes on nearly one out of every four Wisconsin taxpayers:
“Today the Legislative Fiscal Bureau released a memo that said what we suspected – that thousands of hard-working Wisconsin taxpayers are going to see their taxes go up. By 2019, more than 740,000 taxpayers will see an increase in how much they pay, not a decrease.”
“What are the Republicans thinking? People who make $60,000 a year or less are going to have to pay more taxes under the Republican plan.”
“They are trying to pass off a tax break for the rich as a transportation plan. Wisconsin residents are smarter than that. They can see through Republican smoke and mirrors. This is just a bad plan for Wisconsin.”
The memo entitled, “Distributional Data Regarding Assembly Republican Income Tax Proposal” was released to the Wisconsin Legislature today and is available online here.
