Milwaukee residents have new ways of applying to serve on city boards and commissions

New City of Milwaukee online features enable residents to quickly and easily place their names in nomination for appointments to serve on city boards and commissions.
The new features, including new city web pages where residents can submit their names for consideration for boards and commissions, were announced today by Mayor Tom Barrett and Common Council President Willie L. Hines, Jr.
The boards and commissions applicant web pages – accessible via the Mayor’s Office home page (http://milwaukee.gov/appointments) and the Common Council President’s web page (http://milwaukee.gov/PresidentsAppointments) – can also be accessed by going to the city’s main page at www.milwaukee.gov.
“I’ve always encouraged residents to be involved in boards and commissions and I’m pleased this new mechanism makes it even easier for Milwaukeeans to get engaged. We welcome civic involvement and are hopeful this online process generates significant interest,” Mayor Barrett said.
Council President Hines said he is hopeful the new online nomination options empower residents to seek service on city boards and commissions. “The new options allow residents to apply more easily to serve on boards that are involved in making important decisions and recommendations that will affect the future of Milwaukee, and I welcome the ease and transparency that the new options offer.” President Hines said.
“The public has indicated a desire for a nomination system that is more open and accessible, and that will provide for the possibility of greater numbers of prospective members and commissioners from across the entire city,” President Hines said. “I believe that expanded accessibility is what we have now with these direct and easy-to-use online options.”
A second option for signing up to be considered for appointment to city boards and commissions will also soon be available by going to the city’s online Legistar system – http://milwaukee.legistar.com/Departments.aspx.
