County Board Refuses To Put Price Tag on Public Safety
Committee votes to invest in protection of Milwaukee County residents
The Co-Chairs of the Milwaukee County Board Committee of Finance, Personnel & Audit, Supervisors David Cullen and Willie Johnson, Jr., have issued the following joint statement in regard to the 9-0 vote in Committee today to reject a memo of understanding (MOU) that would have shifted patrol of Milwaukee County Parks within the city of Milwaukee to the Milwaukee Police Department:
“The MOU as crafted by the Milwaukee County Executive would have compromised public safety, by overburdening the already stretched MPD and by jeopardizing response times to citizen calls. Instead, this Committee of the Milwaukee County Board listened to the citizens of Milwaukee County and opted to increase the County’s investment in public safety. The Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors has heard time and time again that taxpayers support budgets that assist law enforcement and protect the public.
“Further, the budget amendment the Committee approved today includes Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office Tactical Enforcement Units to monitor Milwaukee County Parks.”
