Governor Walker Honors Life, Work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
"...we honor his courage, his determination, his vision, and his commitment to peace."
Madison – Governor Scott Walker joins the nation and the people of Wisconsin today in celebrating the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. He issued the following statement honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his enduring legacy:
It is easy to stand up for what you believe in when that belief is popular or receives strong support from others. It is much more difficult to do so in the face of constant criticism. But, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. did just that, refusing to abandon his ideals because, “The time is always right to do what is right.”
Governor Walker is attending two events today commemorating the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The first event is the 20th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Celebratory Breakfast, which is hosted by the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee. In Madison, Governor Walker will attend the 37th Annual State of Wisconsin Tribute and Ceremony honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the Wisconsin State Capitol.
Governor Walker proclaimed today as The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. A copy of the proclamation is attached.
