Northwestern Mutual Tower and Commons Continues to Exceed Hiring Commitments
Hours worked by those hired through RPP total 465,682, or 45 percent of the total hours worked on the project.
Our Tower and Commons is completely enclosed in glass now, and the yellow tower crane that has – for the last two years – lifted steel, glass and large equipment will be gone by the end of the year.
As we shift our focus to the building interiors, we’re proud to announce the results of our most recently released quarterly report to the city of Milwaukee outlining our progress on hiring small business enterprises (SBEs) and utilizing Milwaukeeans certified by the city’s Residents Preference Program (RPP).
As of June 30, 2016, we’ve let contracts to local SBEs in the amount of nearly $120 million, or 31.6 percent of total projected project costs. Hours worked by those hired through RPP total 465,682, or 45 percent of the total hours worked on the project.
Before we even started designing The Tower and Commons, we promised the city of Milwaukee we’d utilize local SBEs for at least 25 percent of our construction costs and hire local workers through RPP for at least 40 percent of the hours worked on the project. We’ve been exceeding those goals almost from the start of the project.
