Kite Festival Returns to Veterans Park, Sept. 10, 11
Professional kite-flying teams will perform beginning at 12:30 p.m. each day.
Milwaukee, WI (Aug. 23, 2016) – Hundreds of colorful kites will fill the skies over Veterans Park on Milwaukee’s Lakefront at the 38th Annual Maggiano’s Frank Mots International Kite Festival, Saturday, Sept. 10, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 11, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. The Kite Society of Wisconsin and Illinois along with Gift of Wings are presenting the free event. Parking for the event is also free.
Each day at noon, the public is invited to take part in the Fast Track Grand Launch of 600 kites. Event-goers may bring kites from home or purchase them at the event.
“We’re known for having the most powerful line up of giant kites in the Midwest,” said Scott Fischer, owner of Gift of Wings, “and we’ll see the new, 150-foot-long, mega octopus kite this year!”
A special treat will be a Charlie Chaplin routine performed by Connor and Amy Doran, top-12 finalists on “America’s Got Talent.”
At about 2 p.m. each day, the Kaplin University “Kids Mad Dash” will get under way, with free kites to the first 100 participating children, running to launch their kites. Also for the kids, free kite-flying lessons will be offered by Brett Williams, the Kite Whispererer.
Food items including brats, pizza, and hot dogs will be available for purchase.
