Thirteen Milwaukee-area Artists Chosen for Arts and Rivers Contest
Artwork to be displayed this week at the Tory Folliard Gallery in the Historic Third Ward
WHAT: Milwaukee Riverkeeper is proud to host the 2016 Arts and Rivers Contest, an annual event that celebrates both Milwaukee’s artists and its rivers. Milwaukee Riverkeeper received more than 90 submissions, thirteen of which have been chosen by a professional panel of jurors for display at the Tory Folliard Gallery in the Historic Third Ward.
The professional panel of jurors included:
- Barbara Brown Lee, Chief Educator Emeritus, Milwaukee Art Museum
- Mark Lawson, Director of Galleries, Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design
- Anne Vogel, Board of Directors, Milwaukee Riverkeeper
Finalist artwork includes photography, painting, and mixed medium. The thirteen pieces selected are from professional or amateur artists that best convey the beauty of the Milwaukee, Menomonee, and/or Kinnickinnic Rivers in an artistically meaningful way.
WHEN & WHERE: The top finalists will have their work displayed for viewing during regular gallery hours at the Tory Folliard Gallery from June 7 – June 11, 2016.
There will be an opening reception on Tuesday, June 7, 2016, from 4:00pm – 6:00pm. Winners will be announced during a closing reception on Saturday, June 11, 2016, from 3:00pm – 4:00pm.
Tory Folliard Gallery has regular gallery hours from 11-5 Tuesday-Friday and 11-4pm on Saturday and is located at 233 N. Milwaukee St., Milwaukee, WI 53202.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The contest is funded by the late Shirley Holzer-Jeffrey, a long-time Milwaukee Riverkeeper board member and accomplished photographer. Cash prizes will be awarded to the contest’s three winners as well as one popular vote winner. Anyone who visits the Tory Folliard Gallery from June 7 – June 11, 2016, will be able to submit one vote for their favorite piece.
