Ron Johnson Looks Forward to the Republican Convention, Embracing the Party of Trump
Ron Johnson’s enthusiastic anticipation of a Trump coronation puts him in a more extreme position than his own party leadership.
MADISON – After last night’s results, it’s clear that the Republican Party is the Party of Trump. As a growing number of Senate Republicans are distancing themselves from a potential Trump candidacy, Ron Johnson is doubling down on his support for the eventual nominee, saying he plans to attend the Republican Convention.
Ron Johnson’s enthusiastic anticipation of a Trump coronation puts him in a more extreme position than his own party leadership. The Chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee recently told vulnerable Republicans to skip the convention. Unlike the moderate members of his party, the ultra-conservative Johnson seems all too comfortable with a President Trump.
Yesterday, Senator McCain became the most recent senator in a tough reelection campaign to announce that he would skip the convention. Kelly Ayotte and Mark Kirk have also said they would skip the convention.
