U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin Statement on U.S. Army Order to Resume JTLV Production at Oshkosh Defense
Oshkosh Defense can resume progress on the $6.7 billion contract to construct nearly 17,000 vehicles.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin released the following statement today after the U.S. Army directed Oshkosh Defense to resume production of the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV). With the Government Accountability Office (GAO) dismissing a protest that halted production, Oshkosh Defense can resume progress on the $6.7 billion contract to construct nearly 17,000 vehicles. Senator Baldwin has been a champion for Oshkosh Defense in the Senate, supporting legislation to fund and move the JLTV project forward.
“I am pleased that Oshkosh Defense can finally get back to doing what they do best—building, on cost and on schedule, the safest and highest quality Made in Wisconsin vehicles for the brave men and women of our military. The GAO was right to uphold the Department of Defense’s merit-based decision to award this contract, and I am proud of everyone at Oshkosh Defense for putting together this winning bid,” said Senator Baldwin.
“The Army conducted a thorough, methodical procurement including exhaustive testing and evaluation to ensure our troops get the best vehicle,” said U.S. Army Major General (Retired) John M. Urias, executive vice president of Oshkosh Corporation and president of Oshkosh Defense. “The Oshkosh team and our employees will immediately resume work to deliver JLTVs to our Soldiers and Marines.”
