Youth Council President Zach Komes issues statement on final approval of federal student loan compromise
The congressional compromise came with some negatives, including increasing loan rates on graduate students and recent college graduates.
Today’s vote is a victory for 7 million students around the country who are eager to get the education they need to get our economy back on track. This battle brought together thousands of students, elected officials, and community members around the country to stand up for our neediest students.
The congressional compromise came with some negatives, including increasing loan rates on graduate students and recent college graduates. The legislation is also a short-term solution, providing an additional one-year freeze on loans. We hope that the 113th Congress works to address the long-term, large-scale problems facing college-bound youth around the country including high college costs, loan debt, and a dismal job market.
To create a prosperous Milwaukee, our elected leaders on all levels of government need to address many of our education issues.
