AFP Applauds Occupational Licensure Reform
Bill Expands Access to Opportunity for Wisconsin Entrepreneurs
MADISON, Wis. – Americans for Prosperity Wisconsin issued the following statement applauding the Wisconsin State Assembly for passing legislation to assist entrepreneurs in obtaining their piece of the American Dream.
Senate Bill 81 prevents local governments from creating new barriers to employment in the form of occupational licenses and requires that existing local licensing requirements be no more stringent than those imposed by state regulators.
State Director Eric Bott had the following to say:
“The reforms advanced by the Assembly this week will increase employment opportunities, help launch more small business startups, and encourage competition,” said Eric Bott, State Director of Americans for Prosperity Wisconsin. “Overzealous licensing encourages cronyism, limits job growth, drives up prices, and disproportionately harms low income individuals and immigrants.”
“Requiring young entrepreneurs to buy a license from the government to start their businesses selling photographs or braiding hair is government overreach at its finest. Government should be helping these entrepreneurs to get ahead — not needlessly getting in their way. Americans for Prosperity Wisconsin commends Representative Dale Kooyenga and Senator Van Wanggaard for their commitment to entrepreneurship and free enterprise in Wisconsin.”
