County Executive Abele Announces All MCTS Bus Rides Are FREE on Monday
Union leaders said they will allow their members to go back on the job Saturday, July 4, 2015.
MILWAUKEE – Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele announced this afternoon that all MCTS buses will be free on Monday, July 6, 2015. Monday will be the first weekday since the conclusion of the drivers’ union strike that is stranding tens of thousands of people who rely on MCTS to get to work, school, and doctor appointments.
“This day of free transit won’t make up for the massive inconvenience riders felt last week when union leaders went out on strike, however it’s the least we can do to thank the community for their patience,” County Executive Abele said. “I know most drivers agree with me that the best way to continue to serve the community is to get back to work and provide the rides that so many people depend on.”Union leaders said they will allow their members to go back on the job Saturday, July 4, 2015. MCTS will resume its regularly scheduled service on Saturday, including Summerfest routes.
“I want to thank all the employees at MCTS who stayed on the job the past few days to make sure service would be ready as soon as this strike ended,” County Executive Abele said.

So you do call the shots for MCTS.
Abele created the problem and reflects his ongoing temper tantrum for not getting his way with a new out of state management team for transportation. So now he wants to appear like he is some kind of decent human being.
Decency would be treating workers fairly with respect and dignity and cooperating with County Supervisors. Abele is a failure at governing.
David, some county supervisors called for this strike and they should be under investigation and than fired. The union heads are to blame for this and no one else.
Should we repeal it? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_of_speech
Voicing support for a strike is or should be a fireable offense? Whatever happened to letting voters decide in elections?
PMD, telling a union to strike against the people you represent in your district should get you fired.
Well the voters will decide won’t they Paul? Isn’t that how it should be?
PMD, so you were against the John Doe witch hunt trying to get Walker. This case should be investigated for illegal activity between the county supervisors and the union. Helping to organize a strike is a lot different than voicing an opinion.
I didn’t know elected representatives could be fired. Must have been in budget provision 999.
What illegal activity? Campaigning on county time?
